Mannar Area Development Programme is located in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Geographically, the bulk of Mannar District lies in the main land of Sri Lanka with the District of Killinochchi and Vavuniya on its Northern and Eastern boundaries and its southern boundary abutting Anuradhapura District on the Eastern side and Wilpattu National Park (Puttalam District) on the Western side. Area comprises of 05 DS Divisions; Mannar, Manthai West, Nanaddan, Musali and Madhu. The District falls within the Arid Zone Agro-Ecological Division of the country. The District receives nearly 60.3 % of the rainfall during the North-East Monsoon period October to December. Majority is Roman Catholic (55.92%) while Hindus (19.47%), Moors 15.45% other Christians 7% and others 2.10% too form the community. Cultural background of people is Tamil that has roots of South India. Fisheries and Agriculture are the main avenues in the economy.

Infrastructure Development: construction of proper shelter, internal road facilities, and electricity supply and multi purpose halls. Agriculture & Irrigation : Construction of Model farm & trees planted along the Mannar-Madawachchi Highway, in order to make people aware of environmental protection and pollution. Child Development: Construction of Theme Park, Birthday Bounce backs, strengthening Children Societies, Child intellectual skill developments and sports programs carried out under this component. |
