Kebethigollewa ADP

Kebithigollewa ADP is located in the Anuradhapura District in North Central Province. Anuradhapura district comprises of 23 Divisional Secretariat Divisions including the Kebithigollewa. Total extent of the DSD of Kebithigollewa is 60,510 hectares, which covers an area of 8.4% of the district. The North - West boundary separates the NCP and Northern province. The natural landscape is formed with broad ridges and valleys, which helped develop the tank-irrigation system in the history. A dry climate prevails throughout the year. Temperatures see a slight decrease during the period of November -January (North East rain season).

Agriculture is the main source of income. Rice, Maize, Black-grams, chilies and gingerly are the most common crops while cultivating cow-peas, Green-grams, Vegetables such, as Squash, Pumpkin, Okra, Tomato, at small scale. Fruits grown vary from papaya, Banana to Mangoes at very small scale. Inefficient water management poses a big threat causing crop-damages, as well as to the social disputes.

Population in the ADP area is 10,950.    There are 5,250 households scattered in 119 villages in 26 GND s (Grama Niladari Divisions). Community consists of 02 ethnic groups; Sinhala (93%) and the rest is Muslim (Source: Divi. Secretariat). Buddhism is the main religion while the Muslim minority follows Islam.

Agriculture & Irrigation – Perennial crop development, Integrated Farming System Programmes, construction of agro - wells, renovation of an irrigation tank, plant distribution, rain water harvesting, promotion of home gardening.

Capacity Building – Leadership development, youth & child development, institutional development & strengthening.

Value Formation – Peace building & conflict resolution, listening and befriending, artistic Value Formation

Environment Development – Awareness on environmental conservation, kitchen improvement Prog., tree planting
